IDEA Meets NCLB

February 5, 2013

Welcome to our blog! We have done our best to ensure that our presentation will adequately inform you of the groundbreaking introduction of IDEA 2004 and the No Child Left Behind Act. Make no mistake – these acts represent the height of the federal government’s oversight of the American education system. The implications are far-reaching and have become somewhat controversial. Please use the right side blog bar to navigate our entries. They are best viewed in order from top to bottom. We look forward to your questions and comments!

In seeking to understand the changes to IDEA after its reauthorization in 2004, one must first understand the fundamental aspects of the law itself.  This blog attempts to first describe (albeit basically) IDEA in its original form, before continuing to address the changes that occurred after NCLB was signed into law by President George W. Bush.

Of particular interest are the aspects of the law affecting special education.  We will attempt to break down the changes to IDEA as it merged with NCLB, allowing for future and current educational professionals to offer input and receive feedback from the authors of this blog, as well as the community at large, including students and faculty at George Washington University.
